Grocery Bag Ministry

2008

Our 50 th Year!

St. Philip has been providing canned goods to the needy since our beginning. I can remember bringing canned soup & vegetables when I was a child “ many years ago”. We have provided groceries to many individuals over the years; donated grocery items RAM House & the Rescue Mission; worked in joint fellowship with St. Paul and Emmanuel Lutheran Churches to provide groceries; supported the food pantry at College Lutheran Church in Salem. For the past several years food has been gathered and given to St. Mark Lutheran Church for their food pantry. Their pre-bagged groceries are passed out to the needy on the first and fourth Monday of each month. In 2003 we added St. Francis House to our ministry as they provide grocery items 5 days a week and we could serve more people. We have now returned to utilizing only St. Mark as both of these pantries serve the same general area of clients.

If you need an idea of what to purchase, a list of items always needed is available on the table in the narthex. OR, as you shop for your own needs, simply pick up extra items and add it to our store inside the front door the first Sunday of each month. Check the Sunday, and Wednesday newspapers for those great grocery sale items!

St. Francis House, St. Mark Lutheran Church, the Social Ministry Team, and I thank you all for your generous donations over the years.

God’s peace to you all,

Scottie McCutchen
